How to detect sound card volume levels or if muted?

Hi all,

I am trying to detect from VB6 what the audio level is of a particular channel of the sound card or ideally, if a particular channel is muted?

Can anyone point me in the right direction of some code that can detect/monitor this?

Is it possible to determine the status of each channel, its volume and whther or not it is selected or muted?
